The latest channel data (not on your receiver yet) shows Sony Movie Channel HD possibly coming to DirecTV on channel 563.

Hopefully we'll see this on a Wednesday morning in the next few weeks. It would be part of the HD-Extra pack, which is $5/mo and free for the first 3 months.

Note this doesn't mean with certanity that the channel is coming, but is a very good sign of it coming.

So far the channel is a waste of space...

Many movies from the 70's and 80's... all with the stupid Sony Movie Channel logo on the screen for the entire movie... and not in OAR.

If I were DIRECTV I would look into adding EPIX first.

Agreed if this is the case; not OAR and/or movie rehashing is DOA (I can get old movies on the net and via Netfilx); at least it wouldn't be at PREM additional cost for this same-old/same-old.

I don't sweat OAR here, I mean it's a friggin cable channel. I like the idea of showing some oldies, but to be honest, the channel is fairly new, give that some time. My interest is how said oldies look PQ wise.

OAR on a 16:9 106" screen is not wanted. On my plasma or LCD. You bet!!

OAR, unedited and PQ are the most sought after items for true movie buffs. Not being OAR relegates this channel to middle to near bottom-tier status too me regardless of size. Just IMHO but it sounds like it may be a waste of space and a way to get "ad-space" for Sony.

I would say they look no different from DVD quality. I have not seen any real wow HD quality from this channel.

Maybe because it's on Dish lite??

Just kidding.;)
Had to be the first to say it. LOL

I'm a movie buff, and I'll take unedited and PQ, but I can deal without OAR on a cable channel. I do not understand why movie channels, especially premiums, can't stick to OAR though.

In this day & age they should ALL just show the movie as filmed. If you have to insert commercials based on the network, then I'll give them that much.

Not in OAR, meaning pillar boxed or stretched 4:3? Hopefully they at least leave it as 4:3 instead of stretching it
