Sony’s Dazzling New Display Adds to the RGB LED TV Hype

Not buying the idea of long life OLEDs. Too many complaints. Claiming "Well, the new ones last longer" is a hard sell to those familiar.

It's going to be interesting to see how the quality of the new sony sets is going to be like. will it stay the same or plumet since sony handed it over to TCL.
Dont think of TCL as a bargain brand. They are impressive at a great price point!

Your Crazy if you think Sony will allow anything to happen to thier Quality TV's and Picture.

I can see them allowing TCL to has access to thier Bottom Line TV's .... keep in mind, most Manufactures have 3 lines of TV's.
What will probably happen is the TCL Tv's will get Better.

Now Sony has used Other peoples Panels for quite awhile now .... maybe TCL has a Great Panel coming along soon.

I read somewhere that sony is still going to be in charge of the processing hopefully that remains the same!!! sony oled use LG panels though sony cherry picks the panels.. i belive some sony's use samsung panels as well. it's going be interesting to see what TCL has up there sleeves

Always a believer in Sony for my TV's for a long time. Antenna man brought up a shocker. Their OTA tuners suck.
And they hung on to 100 MBPS Ethernet for far too long. I don't watch OTA and don't use the Android interface. HDMI always with a FireTV Cube.
I breeze past the TV sections in stores. I believe the Sony setup menus surpass treakability.
Broadcast studios say a lot for Sony products. As did the fact that during the Grand Alliance with all of the black boxes from the various manufacturers when grabbing that one HD standard. Sony cameras and monitors were the only source and playback pieces of equipment in the NBC DC testbed.
I guess I'm all for if someone can manufacture a superior display. Because that's all they do is make displays. Who's to say they shouldn't be the supplier to whoever?

TCL already provides the panel for the Bravia 9 - one of the best reviewed mini-LED sets on the market.

Samsung's 98" 8k set... also TCL, so are a significant portion of their of their QLED / Neo Qled TVs.

TCL hasn't really done OLED but have a plant coming online in 2027, so skepticism there is warranted - but if the quality approaches what they're already producing they'll be in really good shape.

I have a zapper box and it's tuner is great and it's a sony tuner!!!

Well. Three-Hundred smackeroos for an external tuner/DVR in addition of a TV with it's own and hindered tuner brings up a thought. Save some bucks and just buy a monitor with various inputs.
Kind of on your plane of thought, but in a different way. It took about 3 firmware updates in my X930E to get things right. Mostly Dolby Vision stuff. Can't remember how long ago that was. But the TV was new.
And typical of Sony stuff. It should last for years. I have a Sony global B&W that I got in Greece at the exchange with a USA, CCIR, and.....Japan? (have to dig it out again) switch on top. Still works. Sans the obsolete tuner.
The two other plus a "Green Screen Class Action" projection I have are Sony. And sold another one to a gal friend who still uses it in a spare room. Is it luck? Or some rare and actual quality that seems to be lacking these days?
Anyhow. I trust Antenna Man. Because that's about all he does. Don't know of too many people who will travel and setup a custom antenna tailored for your location. Takes some familiarity. More than grabbing too much or way too little. Right?

If your box-o-zappage in fact has a Sony tuner (chipset). Seems like there would be a global performance comparison. Apparently Antenna Man says Sony tuners are deficient.
Back to the X930E. Firmware updates stop for every manufacturer after a period. Can't as far as I know change a tuner chipset firmware through updates. Sony is closed source. Android boxes, phones, tablets. Unlocking the bootloader for root. And custom ROM's. All for it.

But. The Zapperbox. Side-by-side in a unbiased review for tuner-only performance comparisons might open a few eyes. Who knows.
Thirty G's for a tube (or is it a flat these days....panel?). Not me. I do like the broadcast monitors. Thinking I would move the couch closer. Or get glasses. Laser surgery. And buy a steak.
The broadcast monitors have native ASI inputs. Many also have HDMI. Which brings up a thought. What the heck is SCART (already know what it is.....jus' sayin')? Why didn't "we" adopt it? Sounds like a pile of SCART to me. Someone mentioned awhile back. Funny how you when you get off the pipe, you have money for things you'll have tomorrow.

Warning! Sony Tuners
