The sound from my HD-DVR box cuts out every 30 seconds or so for a half second, on all channels. The SD box in another room does not do this. I have the HD box audio going to a new Harmon Kardon AVR, which worked fine with DTV, which I just dropped. Any ideas on the cause and the fix?

CHeck cable

THis might be more difficult for you to do if you don't have the experience, but you should also check the impedence of the cableing. If this is older cable or the crimps are not proeprly done, you could be picking up enough interfeence to cause a problem. Also, make sure that you r cables are not running close to any voltage or magnetic sources. Some examples would be lights with flourescent bulbs and/or vhs eraser, etc.

If you do not see a problem in those areas, call a technician.
