I want to split my cable line I have where my road runner modem is so I can have a tv and road runner on same cable line coming into the room. If I use a digital splitter will I slow down my broadband connection by doing this?

Mine is split as soon as it enters my house. One line goes my modem and another to feed the rest of the house with cable and has been split many times thereafter. Just make sure you use a quality splitter.
A powered splitter like this one will give you the best signal. I use this model to split the TV2 output of my 722K for a few older SD sets. Has model has worked great for 6 plus years.
Instead of wasting money, just drop by the local TW office. They will give you any splitters and/or amps you need for your configuration for free, and you know they'll be good enough to handle the frequencies that they use.
