Streaming as expensive as cable / satellite now?

I had a basic DirecTV package that crept up to about $100 and the only thing it got used for was my wifee watching a cooking and home improvement show which is also available on streaming. We are Amazon Prime members primarily for buying too much junk and that gets us free Prime TV. Then we subscribe to Netflix which is about $15/mo and that plus Prime has a good 90% of what we watch these days, its an amazing amount of TV. Then the wifee tried out Paramount to get some specific program and maybe that's $15/mo but we may cancel after the specific program is tapped out, and she is also trying Apple TV as a test and I think its under $10/mo. I have about 400mb ATT fiber at $40/mo but would have that no matter what.

We now have what looks like nearly unlimited TV and we watch the heck out of it where our DirecTV package only pleased the wifee with maybe two channels. The only channels I used to watch as a former DirecTV employee with the free mega package was a couple of outdoor channels but I would have needed to bump up to a much more expensive package with DirecTV to get those and I find they are now included with one of the streaming services we get.

So for us we have endless TV that is very satisfying for both my wife and I at much less $$ than what DirecTV was charging. We will probably end up backing out of at least one of the streaming services saving $10-$15 and the total monthly bill will be even cheaper soon.
Your getting Netflix for $15 ?????
Not Commercial free or in 4k then.

My Netflix was close to $30, but I had a second person on my account ($8) ... so I'm guessing, next year will be less for me, probably around $25 (plus Tax) shes no longer with us, so not on my account any longer.

My Directv Employee package with discount would run $140 after I retired.
Moved to YouTube TV and save about $60 a month.

When you factor in broadband...its way way way more expensive than cable
Might as well factor in the electric bill also, cannot watch TV without power, or the cost of a home, need a room to watch TV in, don't forget the cost of a couch, need somewhere to sit down while watching TV.

I use the internet for so much more than just TV programming, such a ridiculous counter point.

I was going to point that part out next for him ...

On my Netflix account I do get an occasional commercial for another Netflix series and I have not tried 4k yet. But its $15 and I can't complain. As a DTV employee I got free mega DirecTV package plus a wide open engineering account at home for DirecTV Latin America and Sky Mexico. I had more free TV than I could watch back then and after a busy day at work I didn't really want to watch more TV when I got home. In retirement I got a continuation of my free employee account for 30 months then had to finally pay for a basic subscription which was really painful.

I'm actually installing Dish for a customer who got fed up with streaming cost. He said they totaled everything, including their Starlink bill and found they were paying somewhere in the $250 range. He also said he missed the simplicity that he had with Dish....when he wanted to watch something, he just punched in the channel number and didn't have to ask his wife "honey...what app do I go to?"

Then eventually they will be paying for both when they go to watch a show and find out it's streaming only.
Or that the vast majority of content via Dish ( and all other providers) is reruns, which are also available for free on services like Pluto TV.

1. Many people Like Reruns
2. Not everything is a rerun if it's not from a Streaming App.

Reruns are MUCH better than the "Reality" crap thats on TV ...

After there screw up .They gave us the 250 with locals and the 3 rooms for $ 100.00 a month for two years no contract!!! they even paid the ETF as well!!! As much as i would love to leave you can't beat the pricing.

I'd have taken that for one H3 and 250 for two years and no contract!

I have 1 gb of Spectrum internet and they wanted to go up to $125.00 a month for it. I called and said I need a promo to get it down to reasonable price or I'm going with ATT. The guy gave me Internet for $65.00 a month + $30.00 for Spectrum TV channels for a total of $95.00 + $2.98 for taxes, fees, charges. So $97.98 for the whole thing and it is guaranteed for 3 years. So I don't really watch the 100 or so TV channels since it is some of the same stuff I already have with Sling. But it got my price down to a lower amount and I shouldn't have to call back unless they start jacking the TV package.

When you factor in broadband...its way way way more expensive thanI do count

More expensive for whom? I pay $40/mo for 300/100 broadband, I'd imagine that's pretty standard except in extremely rural areas
I do not count my broadband costs because even when I had dish I had it already. I consider it as an Utility

Great, my point is, why pay for them when that same content is available for free.
2. Not everything is a rerun if it's not from a Streaming App.
But the majority of content on a Live TV service is reruns.

And I know the paid streaming services like Paramount+ and the rest have older content, it is just those services have the vast majority of new content, including the new shows on Broadcast/Cable Channels, along with the exclusive shows/movies.
Reruns are MUCH better than the "Reality" crap thats on TV ...
Do not watch fake reality shows either, I want scripted shows/movies, news and Football, that is it.

By the way, Ohio State is off to a great start already. :devilish

Actually, Ohio State will be just fine ...
Losing to the #5 team in a 1 point game doesn't drop you drastically.

From number 1 to number 6. Not drastic but a 5 position drop.
Only issue is those above them won't be dropping any until they would lose ... some teams actually stay the same or move Up when they play so so against a no body team (CoughSECough)

If Buckeye take care of business thruout the year and are in the top 6 by the playoffs, I'm happy ...
They have a very difficult schedule ...
1. Texas on the road - loss
4. Indiana - on the road
AT what we all thought and might still get it together Oregon (was #8, now 21) (thats the biggest upset, much worse than the Buckeyes losing by a point)

12. USC on the Road
18. Iowa on the Road

19. TTUN in Columbus

So theres 6 teams that are ranked in the Top 20.

The Big ones are Indiana, Oregon and TTUN ... they should handle the others, but thats why they Play the games

Now they keep asking me if i want to leave while there shoving starlink down my throat. I laugh my ass off when they tell me the pricing and tell the reps that i don't support elon :biggrin. That stops the convo real fast and the rep has no idea what to say LOL.
