Dave Vaughn just posted over at AVS that yes money changed hands and WB decided to go exclusive to BD after another studio decided not to jump with them, so they decided to go the route that would end the war quicker.

Blue = Blu-Ray = Democratic
Red = HD-DVD = Republican

Topic 2:

Purple = Neutral? More like Bi. Swings both ways. Makes my engineering heart groan. There is no technical reason on earth to have two. Calling it Neutral makes is sound "nice and good", like "network neutrality". That is very misleading.
