According to the author of the study Patrick M. French NSR has been relatively conservative in its projections but does not question that HD will grow. The challenge of HDTV is that its success hinges on the actions of consumers broadcasters content providers equipment manufacturers satellite operators and governments. Each of these players has it own vested interests and they have been tripping over each other more than anything else in the last few years.

North America will lead the drive forward with somewhat less than half of the forecasted 487 HD channels to be broadcast on satellite in 2009.
That makes 243.5 HD channels on satellite by 2009.
