Instead of using a 16 switch on this install could I use two 8 way switches?

Its a swm install.
I am essentially trying to avoid buying a 16 switch

Ah I did some research and found that. Thanks hutch!
So if I were to use a regular 4 port lnb, would I still use swm switches?
And would I have to run two lines to each dvr?

You can cascade SWM8 switches with no problem. The only reason you would want a SWM16 is if you are using multiroom viewing and want to share between enough boxes that go over 8 tuners.

That said, SWM16 are getting cheaper on ebay, and are probably about the same as buying two SWM8's.

I think he was referring to an actual 8 way SWM splitter.

As for using the 4 output LNB, you would need two 6X8's and 4 ALL power pass splitters

A new SWM16 is $60 shipped on ebay by multiple sellers, power supply and splitters included. No reason shortcutting at that price.
