I have a tripod set up with the 3 LNB HD dish going to just a normal HD Receiver. Every tailgate I do the same process which is verify the post from the tripod is level, put the dish on top, swing left and right until the signal pops and then tighten down. There is only one problem and that is I wonder if I have something just slightly off.

When I get locked in on the satellite, I've been able to achieve 98% signal strength every week. But when I do the full test it seems that every few numbers is 00. Everything normally looks great except for my local ABC station. Never been a problem till now as they've not had the games we want to watch. But this week is going to be different. The main game is on ABC at 2:30 (Nebraska @ OSU). I really need to figure out my best way to get through this. All the other sports channels are perfection, but the ABC comes in but is "sparky." It will freeze and jump some.

Any helpful ideas?

What are your signal strengths for all satellites?
The zeroes you see are probably spot beams on the 101 sat.
These are TPs 4, 12, 18, 20, 26, and 28.
Of course your locals are on either the 99 or 103 sat.

Are you sure you are within the spot beam for getting your local ABC channel?

Yep I think it should be in the spot area.

My locals are in Joplin, MO. Stillwater, OK is where the Tailgate is. That isn't too far away (less than 3 hours drive).

It's still possible that you are on the edge of the spot beam.
3 hours away could be 150 miles.

Any chance you could use an antenna for ABC?

Would be pretty tough. I don't have a good portable HD antenna. I can maybe put out a request to folks to see if somebody might have one they can bring. After all I am supplying the generator and all the satellite gear and setup.

I am going to be setting up my DirecTV tailgating dish in two weeks for the first time. I will have a SWM HD receiver but a NON SWM LNB on my tailgating dish. In my setup , where do I let the receiver know I have a NON SWM LNB on my dish?

You need to re-run satellite setup and select the antenna you are using for tailgating.

Word of advice, set it up at home several times to get the hang of it, nothing worse than getting out there and finding out you can't find the signal. :(

Thanks for the replies. I plan on practicing well before getting out there....been there done that with Dish before I got the hang of it.
