Target to begin selling Apple iPad next month

MINNEAPOLIS (MarketWatch) -- No. 2 U.S. discounter Target Corp. said on Friday that it'll begin to carry Apple Inc.'s iPad touch-screen device in its stores beginning Oct. 3 as part of the company's drive for a share of holiday-season sales. Kathee Tesija, executive vice president of merchandising, discussed the plan at media event organized by the Minneapolis-based company. The prices start at $499 and will include six models. Target shares rose 2.2% to $54.95 in midday trading.
