Northern Sky Research recently released a report, "Satellite-WiFi Convergence: A Developing Model for Broadband Access," examining the technical and economic viability of offering converged satellite-WiFi services. By integrating WiFi technology with a satellite backbone link, satellite providers can expand the reach of their ubiquitous coverage, spread the cost of satellite solution, and provision low-cost broadband service to anywhere in the world, the report found. Integral Systems Unveils EPOCH Software - Integral Systems, a provider of satellite command and control technology and satellite ground systems, unveiled Version 4 of its EPOCH satellite command and control software last week. The version provides a command and control solution integrated with the Microsoft Office suite of products to provide automation and reporting capabilities, the company said.

Hitachi Has Ethernet Solution - Hitachi High-Technologies recently unveiled a new, two-board modular Ethernet encoder solution. Based on MPEG-2 encoder modules from NTT Electronics, the MP2000 enables the design of compact, high quality, low delay MPEG-over-IP solutions, Hitachi said.
