I just got my new slimline dish installed today. Installers put in my HR 20 a couple of days ago. At that time I was receiving my OTA locals beautifully with my clip-on. Today as they were installing my new dish, they mentioned the fact that "that clip-on antenna wont work any more." I asked what he meant. He said "with the new dish it wont work, that's a fact."

After they left I figured I'd try it, and sure enough, he was right. What gives? And is there anything that can be done other than buying a different antenna? I know the clip on is a cheap little antenna, but it worked fine for me. My locals arent available in HD in my area through Directv. Any suggestions? Thanks.

It should work as it did before, but when the new satellite fires up in the next week or two, you will no longer be able to diplex the signal with the D* cables. A separate line will need to be run. I am guessing that the installer didn't even connect the ota antenna knowing that it would only work for another week or so.

I just signed up for D* today (install 9/21), and this concerns me... My locals are not available in HD, so I'm under the impression that I will have to use OTA.

So when the new satellite goes online, does this mean that there will be no option to use diplexers to be able to get OTA local HDs? Or will the new satellites allow all customers to get the East/West coast feeds of CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, etc.

Directv has developed a "single-wire multiswitch" which will allow OTA diplexing. It also will work with splitters. Unfortunately it is not yet available, but is is being field tested and should be offered soon (probably before the end of the year).

Get ya one of these I can get channels a 100 miles away. lol

What locals are you trying to get and what is your general location?

I've installed a few OTA antennas around South LA... the CM4228 is by far my favorite.
