So the Joey itself has no tuners but enables use of one of the Hopper Duo's 2 tuners by a 2nd user in HD? I would thusly allege that calling that Hopper, by itself, a Duo could be misleading. A combo of Hopper Duo plus Joey could be unitarily considered a Duo system. To me, as I've previously opined, that's a step backward from being able to support 2 users out of a single box- I was actually expecting them to progress to like 4 users (Quattro?) or essentially whole home/1unit. But I suppose having both Duo users in HD is still something of a plus.

The joey's use a tuner from the main hopper the joeys don't have any tuners in them.. i don't know about the super joey though since it adds 2 tuners!!! and won't work with the hopper 3

i thought the point was also to avoid paying the mirror fee as well for the second room

Think about how you would feed an HD signal to the second TV. HDMI everywhere?

try recording with a duo when two tv's are being used even a hopper with sling is cut throat unless for a single person with one tv... the hopper 3 is the way to go it's upgradeable and expandable if need be. never any recording conflicts

I avoid the second tv fee and can still watch in HD(720P) by using a firestick and dishanywhere.

But the progression could have been to have TV2 (and possibly TVs 3 & 4) be in HD along with adding more tuners; both users already had "all the same options" with a Duo unit as far as usability.

No, they didn't. They didn't have HD on the modulated tuners.
Technicians don't run CAT5/6 as only the two connections on the Hopper could feed 2 Joeys. Anymore and you'd need a switch, which is just another fail point.
They don't have the connectivity options.
The progression is to go from VIP to the Hopper

But then you still need a cable connection at both ends and I think those are actually not that common overall - they seemed to become common-ish on new homes built from 1985 to around 2000 but newer homes are more likely to be wired for ethernet and/or fiber and older homes have nothing.

The world has been shifting to internet-first with TV as kind of an afterthought, or something that just comes along for "free" once the internet is good enough, whereas in 1980, everyone had TV and you got your internet through a dial up modem (if at all.)

Those were the days cable tv c band dishes dial up modems 2 days to download a Google image search and if someone called you there went everything aol disc's master and slave drives

called into tech support yesterday and asked how do i make folders and put recorded shows into them.. she asked me if she could remote into my hopper i approved it and she showed me how to do it by changing screens around

He's living in a bubble with his tin foil hat on if he thinks that dish is the only one that has data breaches. verizons had the t-mobile had them and AT$T has had them and AT&T is in the middle of a payout now!!! All of these telco companies have had data breaches at one point or another. He won't use his credit or debit card with a hopper but he will signup for a streaming service makes no sense!!! if they haven't had a data breach yet give it time!!! your not safe anywhere online!!!

Yep HDMI cables everwhere with an HDMI splitter watching one show at a time .. I don't see how any man would be happy with that setup especially when the soaps and the chick flicks come on!! not worth it just to save a few bucks .. I'll pay the fee so i don't have to live my life in utter misery

viewing the same channel on 4 screens no thanks unless one is a single person!!! i'm not gonna sit around and watch chick flicks reality shows wich are a waste of tape ... it's still nice to have extra boxes for the holidays so you don't have to watch what your family is watching . just disconnect em when there gone..

When we called into sales to setup our acct. We had all owned boxes ready to go!!! We got the song and dance of why we wanted to own vs lease... i told multiple reps that we got our boxes free from CC rewards. all of em got all sketched out and started acting like cops lol. wanted to know where we bought em and how much we paid. so i told em then they wanted the box numbers off of the boxes. they told us sorry you can't activate the joeys but you can activate the hopper!!! so i called the outdoors dept since i felt the reps were trying to blow smoke up me ass!!! i acted like i was going camping and had them run the numbers on all of the boxes!!! they told me that they were clean and could be activated all of them could be!!! so finally i called in blowing my sprockets and was like WTF . then i finally got a rep that wasn't pushy into me leasing junk and knew what i wanted to do!!! you should not have to lease to get the wheels and deals and it's been stated you don't have to lease to get the deals...
