A whole-house unit could have 4 HDMI connections for 4 screens. Or use HD over coax and 4 different freq. bands. Or output ch.3 in D

That's my setup, a Wally runs to all TVs in the house. With streaming and OTA, there's no need for every TV to be tuned to a different Dish channel, this isn't 2005.

So the Joey itself has no tuners but enables use of one of the Hopper Duo's 2 tuners by a 2nd user in HD? I would thusly allege that calling that Hopper, by itself, a Duo could be misleading. A combo of Hopper Duo plus Joey could be unitarily considered a Duo system. To me, as I've previously opined, that's a step backward from being able to support 2 users out of a single box- I was actually expecting them to progress to like 4 users (Quattro?) or essentially whole home/1unit. But I suppose having both Duo users in HD is still something of a plus.

Depends upon how much effort they put into up converting.

Also, the TV. I watched a bit of Father Goose on my 2005ish Samsung 55"er. Then on my 2018 Sony 65"er.

Watchable on both. Better on Sony.

SD is unwatchable on anything other than a CRT.

Gotta disagree. Mostly, you are certainly right. But sometimes the money and effort are put in to the up conversion.

Thankfully, I am now CRT free. Got rid of my last 27" and 32" with a deal for help from others. They DID have superb SD pictures. Hated to say goodbye.

I'm not at all suggesting viewing in anything short of full 1080p at any screen, and I think I have made that clear. I'm saying that there could have been a design decision that HD doesn't have to dictate that there can't be a central unit that serves more than 1 screen and that there still can be screens with full satellite function but no box hanging along with them or needing to be placed in proximity.

Exactly, who's watching sat at all sets at once anymore? Fewer & fewer. If you have a lot of streaming, etc. in the mix, then you could send the HDMI to all with an amp splitter and get extra UHF remotes. But you would of course be limited to the single user, and this might not satisfy for all.

you can watch multi t.v.s from one box full HD using an HDMI splitter!!! sure a unit can be developed to do what you said.. i don't think dish or anyone's making new hardware there just gonna roll with what they have since the end is coming... the joeys can be hidden aka screwed into the wall behind the t'v taped to the back of the tv if they annoy people.. i do think the days of the no mirror fee's are done for more than one room!!! the downside to an HDMI splitter the same channel on all t.v.s

there is no coax out either... so no need for the channel selector!!! i was shocked to see the hopper still had a phone line . this isn't 1998 anymore
