The hobby of satellites

Hi,
So, I have been reading a few of the threads and am very interested in learning more about satellites - setting them up, the FTA channels, receivers...etc etc.

Can anyone recommend a good place to start? Good equipment to start with etc?

I am currently a cable user, but am considering moving to satellite - most likely E* because they have the better deals - unless anyone can advise me otherwise?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
