Thinking of switching to DirecTV

If you go to the website to order satellite the default setup is wireless Gemini's but it also has this at the bottom of the page:

If you click the link to "Switch to a wired connection" it takes you here:

That photo appears to be a C61K which can only be wired. So I am not surprised DIRECTV is instructing CSR's to push wireless Gemini's to new customers but apparently you can still get a wired setup if you work at it.

Personally, I'd go with the HR54 ... just my opinion after using it for years ...
The HS17 is basically thier way to make thier job quicker as it's a Server and doesn't connect to anything other than wireless.

I have an HS17 and I've had it for 9 years or so. It feeds a hardwired C61K.

Hmmm,
Was that a newer Generation ?
I was always told it was basically a Headless Server ...

The other reason I never wanted one was I had to give up all my Normal Boxes (Hr24's) which I use to use in the Motor Home, which would not work any longer if I changed to the HS17 ...
In Most situations the HS17 would work nice and easy ... I wasn't one of them.

It is a headless server (HS) but it can feed hardwired or wireless clients. I'm not sure about generation but it was one of the first ones at that point.

I know they had at least 2 versions ...Stupidly they called it a Genie 2, when they had 3 Genies before it ... HR34, 44 and 54 ... :(

That is simply not true. The HR54 can access the internet just like the HS17 can. So if he orders the HS17 and 3 C61K's explain to me like I am 5 years old how they are going to install those C61K's wireless.

To vlad_ if they say they can't do the install you want as I described email the Office of the President at their email address: directv_oop_customer_care@directv.com and tell them what you want and see what they say. You can't trust anything a DIRECTV CSR tells you.
The DirecTV order entry work flow doesn't allow wired clients with an HS17. Does that clear it up for you?

Yet the C61k (4k unit) was wired only ?
That was the only unit available for the HS17 if you wanted 4K

How does that work ?

Or do I havwe that flip flopped ?
It's been awhile for me now.

the hs 17 only gets the wireless geminis no more hardwiring.. i think dtv is trying to ween people offf of the teat satellite

I think Dish might be the only service that still wires houses. The cable company has gone wireless, Verizon is switching all their copper line customers to wireless, DirecTV Stream, even most surveillance and alarm systems are going wireless.

Like I said you can do it via the website. If DIRECTV's order entry doesn't allow it that means DIRECTV is giving up on satellite.

Yup. Their satellites are gonna start running out of fuel in the not too distant future. This is from Gemini:

Based on industry analysis and the typical lifespans of the active fleet, DirecTV's traditional satellite service is projected to face a critical operational capacity constraint between 2030 and 2034

So, they don't use the C61k anymore ?
If you place the satellite option online and click the link for a wired install it shows a picture of C61K's that I posted previously.
