Before I start 2 things. One, this is going to be my 500 post since joining this site in April. I didn't think I'd be here considering where DbsForums was a year ago. Second, everyone have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Ok back to business.

1) What do you think about the BCS going to ESPN? I really don't like it because ESPN has enough bowl games. Just end the bowl games on Jan. 1 and get rid of the BCS. I mean I know people are going to say the BCS is great but it seems like every year there's controversy and some of the BCS haven't been good.

2) With that being said, I do like some of the bowls during Christmas week. It gives people something to watch and some of the bowl games are actually good.

3) This is off topic but what do you think of Black Friday. Do you shop, have leftovers, watch college football etc. ?

4) Have you noticed that Thanksgiving night has lost some of it's luster as far as showing different shows. Now, all the networks and cable show new episodes of shows that are usually on Thurs. I remember growing up all the networks would show Christmas shows or movies or movies about Christmas.

5) Will the Lions go winless this year?

6) Speaking of the Lions, KEEP THE LIONS GAME ON THANKSGIVING!!! It's tradition, although I will say that Ford Field doesn't have the cache or pinache of the Silverdome.

7) Would the Yankees have major egg on their face if they didn't get CC Sabathia?

8) Can you believe that USC is a 20 point favorite over Norte Dame? If it's not a 20 pt. favorite, it's more. I mean could you believe that. I mean it's Norte Dame.

9) Btw, either HD MM or Jimbo alerted me that one of them had a great reciepe for Chicken Pizzitola and I saw it and looked beyond tasty.

10) Will the Giants go to the Super Bowl this year?

11) This for the Browns fans out there. Will Romeo Crennel be fired at the end of the year?

12) Got to love ESPN. They are now charging you to see some of there programming. In other words, if you like Around the Horn or PTI instead of watching it for free on ESPN, you have to sign up to be an ESPN Insider and pay 6.95 a month or 39.95 a year to watch there programming. So you have that or ESPN360 which nobody has. Between this and the BCS, ESPN is making money hand over fist.

13) What's your favorite holiday movie? A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life etc. and why is it that they show it only once or twice. I mean you'd think they'd want to show them at the end of Oct. or the beginning of Nov. They have commercials for Christmas that started back in Oct.

14) Do you think Norv Turner will be fired? I mean how much bad luck do the Chargers go through before the coach gets nailed.

15) Once again, Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

3) This is off topic but what do you think of Black Friday. Do you shop, have leftovers, watch college football etc. ?
FOOTBALL! You haven't lived until you've eaten three slices of pie and a boatload of turkey while watching Nebraska/Colorado.

5) Will the Lions go winless this year?
I'm afraid so, and Wozniak's head will explode.

6) Speaking of the Lions, KEEP THE LIONS GAME ON THANKSGIVING!!! It's tradition, although I will say that Ford Field doesn't have the cache or pinache of the Silverdome.
The Lions should NEVER have left the Silverdome. They were respectable for many years in that building. Moving into Ford Field = BIG MISTAKE!

8) Can you believe that USC is a 20 point favorite over Norte Dame? If it's not a 20 pt. favorite, it's more. I mean could you believe that. I mean it's Norte Dame.
Trojans that good, Irish that bad. It'll be as ugly as the Oklahoma State/Texas Tech game.

10) Will the Giants go to the Super Bowl this year?
I think they could, but I've fallen for this trap too many times- team looks great at Thanksgiving, locks down #1 or #2 seed in conference, said to be a lock for Super Bow, trips up in Divisional playoff. They have to prove it in the playoffs, otherwise they'll be lumped in with other Super Bowl champs who couldn't do it again, like the Rams, Ravens, and Bucs.

BTW, Sabres, your always a good poster of mine. I can't get into college football on Fri. for some reason. I did watch a little of Oklahoma/Texas Tech and that was a blowout.

Your quote with Homer Simpson is so familiar. I just saw the episode because the quote is fresh in my mind but do you know what episode it was?

As my signature says, McCoy ain't the only one here with a Homer quote!

Ok, I remember now. The Simpsons is a great show although I think it's gone downhill the past couple of years. It's good but not as it once was.

I have no issue with ESPN airing the games, but yes end the games Jan 1st. You have a title game, then some lame bowl after that?? that makes no sense

No shopping this year on BF, nothing catches my eye, Football and leftovers and putting up the x-mas tree

5) Will the Lions go winless this year?

I think they will, the worst think that can happen is if they go 3-13 or something like that, those idiots will spin it saying "Hey we won three out of our last five"

6) Speaking of the Lions, KEEP THE LIONS GAME ON THANKSGIVING!!! It's tradition, although I will say that Ford Field doesn't have the cache or pinache of the Silverdome.

I had no love for the dome..Ford Field is a great venue

7) Would the Yankees have major egg on their face if they didn't get CC Sabathia?

Its amazing that Major league sports are talking about rough times, but teams continue to spend and must have missed the memo on big spending does not lead to wins: Please see Tigers, Yankees and Seattle to name a few

8) Can you believe that USC is a 20 point favorite over Norte Dame? If it's not a 20 pt. favorite, it's more. I mean could you believe that. I mean it's Norte Dame.

Love it at a Michigan fan, you see where our season was hopfully Charlie Weiss will lose by 40

10) Will the Giants go to the Super Bowl this year? Yes

13) What's your favorite holiday movie? A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life etc. and why is it that they show it only once or twice. I mean you'd think they'd want to show them at the end of Oct. or the beginning of Nov. They have commercials for Christmas that started back in Oct.

National Lapoons Christmas vacation

14) Do you think Norv Turner will be fired? I mean how much bad luck do the Chargers go through before the coach gets nailed.

Yes he is better sutied as a OC

3) This is off topic but what do you think of Black Friday. Do you shop, have leftovers, watch college football etc. ?

The wife usually goes out and finds deals. I refuse to leave the house and instead prefer to shop online. I can't stand crowds.

4) Have you noticed that Thanksgiving night has lost some of it's luster as far as showing different shows. Now, all the networks and cable show new episodes of shows that are usually on Thurs. I remember growing up all the networks would show Christmas shows or movies or movies about Christmas.

I'm sure some network will be showing Planes, Trains and Automobiles. That's an epic Thanksgiving classic!

5) Will the Lions go winless this year?

No. I think they'll squeak out a win.

7) Would the Yankees have major egg on their face if they didn't get CC Sabathia?

New York needs to get over themselves. They think everyone should come flocking to them, just because they're NY. Get a clue, NY. Life exists beyond the big apple!

8) Can you believe that USC is a 20 point favorite over Norte Dame? If it's not a 20 pt. favorite, it's more. I mean could you believe that. I mean it's Norte Dame.

I heard it was a 30 point favor.

9) Btw, either HD MM or Jimbo alerted me that one of them had a great reciepe for Chicken Pizzitola and I saw it and looked beyond tasty.

I posted a Chicken Pizziola Bread in the food section thread. Glad you liked it.

10) Will the Giants go to the Super Bowl this year?

Yes.

11) This for the Browns fans out there. Will Romeo Crennel be fired at the end of the year?

He better be. Someone needs to take the fall for the disappointing season.

13) What's your favorite holiday movie? A Christmas Story, It's a Wonderful Life etc. and why is it that they show it only once or twice. I mean you'd think they'd want to show them at the end of Oct. or the beginning of Nov. They have commercials for Christmas that started back in Oct.

Good question. It's a Wonderful Life is a classic. A Christmas Story is tradition. Deciding which is better is a toss up. But I will have to go with It's a Wonderful Life. I've been watching that movie ever since I was 3 years and was originally introduced by my Grandpa. George Bailey was an inspiration to my Irish household. I even named my dog after him, ie: "Bailey".

15) Once again, Have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

You too my friend. The wife and I are hosting Turkey Day for the first time at our place. We're cooking for 14. Should be a good time. Thanksgiving is a great time to get together with family, watch football and eat tons of food. What a day!

HD MM, how was the holiday? I tried watching it's A Wonderful Life one year and I just couldn't get into it. I love National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story. I could sit and watch them 10 times, they are that funny.

It looks like the Yankees might not get CC Sabathia after all. As a Mets fan, as long as the Yankees don't get him, I'm fine with that.

Mets, Thanksgiving was great. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and the food and drinks turned out well. How bout yours?

As for It's a Wonderful Life, it's not a comedy like the others you mentioned. Plus, it's not close enough to Christmas to watch it just yet. Wait till you're in the Christmas Spirit and watch it the whole way through. That movie has a great story and is a feel good movie that is perfect for Christmas.

1 - Once the morons at network control created the BcS, it was bound to happen. Instead of a great day of football, its meaningless workaday weekday games of no value than ESPN typical regular season mid-week fare. Abolish the BcS and return to the prior system. BTW, playoffs WILL NOT WORK.

2 - All bowls are great. Its why college football is so great. A team gets a reward for a good season, the fans have a fun time, and all is well. Far superior to a mindless drone towards one winner and 176 losers.

3 - I was in Vegas, as always. Playing games (won) and Pai Gow (broke even).

4 - I liked the old way better.

6 - Dude, the SILVERDOME? Pinache?

8 - I didn't and cashed several because of it.

12 - What? PTI, et al are still on regular ESPN. You can pay extra for on demand reruns.

I agree with Sam.

He and I used to go at each other's throats over the Big East (though I have crossed over to the dark side) and Texas Tech being "fraudalent," but I do agree with him on something in college football for once.

Texas Tech is going to get rewarded with a nice New Year's Bowl game for their 11-1 season (yes, they got blown out in Norman, but EVERYONE loses when they play the Sooners on the road).

A playoff, IMO, is stupid.

Why punish all the 8-10 win teams for solid seasons?

I may have voted for Obama, but I do NOT agree with him here.

I DO NOT WANT A COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF!

A playoff is not stupid. It would not replace all the bowls just the BCS bowls. That way every 6-6 team gets "rewarded" for their success. Basketball gets this. The good teams go to the NCAA Tournament and Syracuse goes to the NIT. Everyone wins.

Every other division has a playoff....so why not D I??

D-IAA has a playoff
DII has a playoff (which by the way my Minn Duluth Bulldogs knocked off #1 Grand Valley State last week to make it to the semi's.....) :D
DIII has playoffs

as noted above, take the top 8 or 12 teams and have a playoff system setup
top 4 get byes

Ice,
I like your top 12 idea thats where I originally started with my playoff ideas.
My thoughts were 12-16 teams, this way if your anywhere's near good your not left out and there's no real complaining because 13-16-20 are about all the same.
My original idea starts the playoffs on Dec 1st and ends on Jan 1

Since no one wants 16 teams, at least in the beginning, I'm starting to like another scenario.

Go ahead and have the bowls, all end by Jan 1st, like it use to.
Take the winners of the BSC bowl games, the highest seed gets a home game in the first round, have a playoff with the winners till only one is left standing.
As for the complaint about teams playing too many games ....
Only 2 teams play the most, once any playoff starts, not all of them.

fwiw, my locals HS team this past week won the State Championship ..
Congrats Sylvania Southview Ohio Division 2 Champs.

They played 15 games and NO it was NOT too many games for them and they still managed to get thier homework done :eureka

You know I wasn't too keen on a playoff but I'm starting to warm up to the idea. The only thing is that you'll hear people knock that too.

I want bowl games to end on Jan. 1. I don't understand why they added another BCS game when they already had 4. Why did they add the BCS Title Game when they had the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta and Rose Bowl? If those 4 bowls couldn't get the job done, maybe the system does need overhauling.

Thats because the BCS thought that they could predict the two best teams and put them in a Stand Alone game seperate from the rest of the games.
as it turns out, the MNC game ends up about a week or so later than Jan 1st so most are no longer interested by then.
