Tiger has had a miserable year on the tour this year, but he is still the #1 ranked golfer in the world. Phil has had many opportunities to surpass Tiger in the rankings, but he remains in 2nd place. With the exeption of winning the Masters, Phil's game really hasn't been up-to-par this season. Anyway, both golfers are doing battle once again this week and they are trying to "find their game" and perhaps earn a late-season win or top-finish.

Currently, both Tiger and Phil are strugging and are tied at +1 in today's opening round. Is this the week Phil finally takes over 1st place in the world rankings? Believe it or not, Phil has never been the #1 ranked golfer at anytime during his hall-of-fame career. Or will this be the week Tiger finally breaks through and earns his first victory this year? To be honest, my money is on none of the above! Why? Because young and in-their-prime golfers like Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, Dustin Johnson and many others (same faces at the top of the leaderboard each week) have replaced Tiger and Phil will surprising regularity. I think we would all love to see Tiger and Phil competing against each other for a title once again. We shall see...

Tiger and Phil both finished today's round even-par and tied for 22nd place - a whopping 8-shots off the lead. I get the feeling their epic battles will be few and far between in the coming years.

Truth be told, Phil has had plenty of chances to take over....and he has had NO distractions and has not lived up to being #2.

For the most part that's true---with the exception of his wife and mother having cancer---but he sure picked a bad time to play the worst golf of his career.

Well....depends how you look at it. In Tiger's case, IF he looks at the situtation as half full.....Phil has not played very well at all and if anyone has picked a bad time time....it's Phil. In Phil's case....he is lucky no one has started a little streak and has caught up to him. He has feel fortunate that as bad as he has played....Tiger has not extended his lead.

Tiger and Phil were paired into today's final round of the BMW Classic. Phil fired a 67 and finished the tournament -4 and tied (currently) for 9th place. Tiger shot a 70 and finished the tounament at -1 and tied (currently) for 15th place. Besides not defending the BMW Champion, Tiger did not qualify for The Tour Championship to be played in two weeks. Since this was Tigers last tournament he breaks several streaks:

Consecutive Years...

With a win: 14 (0 in 2010)
Top-5 Money List: 13 (65h in 2010)
Top-3 Scoring Average: 13 (32nd 2010)

Additionally, I think this was the 10th straight effort in which Phil didn't do enough to take over the #1 player honors. However, since Tiger has been eliminated from The Tour Championship Phil should be a shoe-in. We shall see.
