This type of news could be interesting to FTA.

The company added 46,000 subscribers during the quarter, bringing the total to 14.6 million.

It lost 42,000 video subscribers

but gained 221,000 high-speed data subscribers, both residential and commercial,

and 97,000 phone subscribers.

It seems people are simply not interested in paying for TV like they used. The programmers are going to have to rethink things or go out of business.

Could this be a blessing for FTA? Sure

Could this be a blessing for IPTV? With out a doubt.

I will give the the program delivery companies a hint. Stop encrypting your signals and sell advertising, or drop your prices. Failure to use a rational line of thinking will turn your industry into the modern day record industry.

...Failure to use a rational line of thinking will turn your industry into the modern day record industry.

Remember the record clubs the industry used to run? Such a deal, bah humbug.

Here's a hint for TV. When you buy a song on ITunes, do you have to buy a bunch of songs you don't want? Why does cable hide behind some study insisting customers benefit from bundles? Bundles of joy to be sure, but nobody has been changing the diapers.

Google is looking at getting into TV. Once the floodgates are open, people will seek the best deal, not the shackle with the heavy chain.

Do not confuse IPTV with internet TV. Yes it helps internet TV, at least the legitimate services such as Hulu and Netflix.

It doesn't help IPTV, since real IPTV providers only sell within their closed networks, and just about all IPTV providers are cable providers as far as things go, moss IPTV providerd from telephone companies.

Pay subscribers switching to legitimate FTA are likely not a big enough number to be excited about. Most will switch to antenna and/or the Internet for their TV.

Well maybe we will live to see the demise of cable/ pizza dish someday? I'm sure it will evolve into something else that folks will still have to pay for though....Blind
