Pull the screen off. Clean the back of the screen, mirror and surface of picture tubes. Use a flashlight and shine into the picture tubes. If there is burn-in you will be able to see it on the surface of the tube. Good Luck.
 
Definetly could need cleaned if you have never done it.

any advice or links on how to best go about doing this.we have never cleaned ours either,and its going on 4yrs old. thankfully no problems as yet.
 
Try AVSForums, they have all kinds of helpful information about equipment.
 
it most likely isnt the tube...it is the convergence ICs...
figure 225-300 for in home repair.
