Transferring saved movies from old VIP 722K to replacement one?

Recently my 722K began having phone problems and DIsh Network sent me out a replacement. I would like to know if there is a way I can save the movies that I have on my old DVR and re-install them onto the new one? I have a wireless home network and a couple of computers on it that both have external hard drives. I have enough ethernet cable to run to a hard drive and/or computer if I need to, or can I do it over my wireless network; or can it be done at ALL?

Also, to save this from happening in the future, can I add an external hard drive to my DVR and somehow archive movies to it and later open them through my wireless home network and Samsung Smart TV

You would need to connect an EHD to the defective receiver, transfer the recordings, move EHD to new receiver, and transfer (or play directly from) the recordings from the EHD to the new receiver.
