my brother and i are renting a cabin this weekend that has direct tv. the direct tv package that the cabin has does not have a channel that we would like to watch. Could my brother bring his direct tv receiver and simply hook it up and get his programming package? Also, would a high def receiver still work with a non high def dish?

Thanks much

Yes and yes the only thing is that depending on where your travelling to depends on your locals depending on the spot beam you man get no locals. And you can set your reciever to a single lnb dish or you will just get a searching for sat on the channels that require a different sat other than the 101
