trouble with punch-through programming of 40.0 remote

I have gotten a code to work for my audio receiver, it can power off/on, volume up/down, and mute in aux mode. I also have my TV code programmed in, and it works.
I have been trying to program in the punch-through feature, where in the "SAT" mode you can have the volume and mute buttons on the 40.0 control the audio receiver instead of the TV sound.
The manual says do the following:
hold down the AUX button for 4 seconds (aux button flashed)
press the # key
press the volume+ key
press the 0 key
press the # key (supposed to flash 3x if successful)

I don't get the successful flashes, and no success.
Has anyone found a way to get punch-through to work, or did it work for you?

That was too easy, sparc! I wish I had asked you before I spent an hour trying to do it the other way!
