with a compass you use magnetic.

Just go to Dishpointer.com. It takes the guess work out of lining up your dish with the sat.

A compass's primary role is for map reading and plotting bearings. they usually have a scale on them to aide in distance measuring too.

I cant imagine any use for a compass if it doesnt have an adjustable magnetic declination
