We recently moved and have an awesome southern exposure, but I'm a little confused about finding my true south satellite. One source (I think Iceberg or PSB) said use your longitude (82 degrees west/ Mount Gilead OH) which would be Nimiq 2 and another (Sadoun) said our true south is 192 degrees west on the compass. Our exact location is 40 degrees north and 82 degrees west.

Also, if I were to pick one satellite for FTA from this location, which would you suggest?

As always, thanks for your help.

Which satellite to pick for a "fixed" installation depends on your tastes. If you want network style programming aim at g10, if you want ethnic programming point at IA5, if you want PBS point at AMC3. It really depends on what you want to watch, there is a lot of stuff out there ;-)

Uh Oh...My true south

the true south satellite is the same as your longitude, which in your case is Nimiq2 (82W)

My true south is 119 (Reno's Longitude)! What should I aim at (getting back into install mode!) ?

Want no part of that action!

Thanks again!

use transponder 2 as TP1 is a spotbeam so you may not be able to pick it up :)
Thanks again Iceberg....One great thing about procrastination, is that I get all kinds of questions out of the way!!! The big problem is that I can still see and hear really excellent FTA programs on my BUD, so it is not like someone has hit me with a cattle prod!
This is what happens when you forget that you have a new tool for installls....THE BIRDOG METER <MY NICEST =XMAS GIFT>!

Forgot, I can always load that SAT into my Birdog meter, and just zero in on it (it seems to really lock to a listed SAT...I mean within 1 click of the actuator arm of the BUD!)! Then install the Motor Sg100, Then Usals to the FTA birds....I Hope!

Nice thing is that there is a fallback always available (THE BUD) just in case I miss the first time, I will just rehook the receiver to the BUD...THAT WAY YOU DO NOT OBSCESS ABOUT WHAT YOU MAY HAVE DONE WRONG! Like formatting a disk with the old one backed up!:D
Regards
Jeff

I would use IA-8
