I just moved to Houston and where I am at cannot use satellite. I bit the bullet and went with TW. Before sighning up I asked if customers could use there own equipment like SA8300 DVR. The tech guy on the phone said yes as long as it was compatible with their system. So I bought the same box that they rent me for 6.98 a month. I plugged it in to the cable/tv and called TW. Tech support now tells me that I can only use their equipment.
Anyone else heard this and is there any way aroun it?

From the SA FAQ:

"How much does an individual unit of the Explorer 8300HD DVR cost and how do I order one?
The Explorer 8300HD DVR is not available for retail purchase in the US. It is currently available only through select cable operators on a lease basis. Please contact your local cable company to find out if the Explorer 8300HD is available in your area."

Time warner, will not work with owned equipment, plus with them its better to lease in my opinnion anyways, that way everything from the curb in is covered, and you dont have to worry about a thing :)
