Following competitors like Warner Bros., Fox, and Paramount, Universal Pictures will release a selection of its movies in 4K Ultra HD this summer. The upcoming Jason Bourne and Warcraft will be among the first films released in the format, alongside UHD versions of Everest, Lucy, and Lone Survivor.

The company's home entertainment wing said it planned to make the movies available in 4K Ultra HD in both Blu-ray and digital formats, and although it didn't specify exactly when this summer the 4K versions would be arriving, it said that it expected more than 100 movies from all studios to be available in the format by the end of the year. There's no word yet on price, but Paramount's previously announced Star Trek combo pack weighs in at $47.99, meaning we could expect 4K Blu-rays to cost around $33 per movie.

So far at least, the slate of movies soon to be available on the format doesn't exactly inspire the immediate purchase of a 4K Blu-ray player, but it's yet to be seen whetherWarcraft or Jason Bourne will be the kind of stone-cold classic that will make you upgrade your home theater setup.

Correction: This article originally stated that Universal Pictures planned to release more than 100 4K Blu-Rays by the end of 2016. The company since clarified that it meant more than 100 across the film industry as a whole.
