Upcoming Contract Disputes for Dish?

Next possible dispute:
nope..take for what its worth ;)

It was highly likely to happen again, starting this evening. Thanks to savvy negotiation between the two parties, a retransmission consent fee dispute leading to a "blackout" of Hearst stations on the DBS provider was averted with minutes to spare.

As I mentioned a couple of months ago, the last 3 contracts that Dish has signed with Disney, they all expired on Sept 30/October 1. If the pattern holds true, that means the contract would expire this week. The judge last November for the trial on the day passes said that the contract expries in less than a year. So we are looking at a very small window of about 45 days where the current contract would expire, barring any extension. But given Disney's stance on the daily passes, I don't anticipate any extension this time around.

I am very interested to see what, if anything, comes about this week. Will http://www.keepmyespn.com come back?

Today, Disney was denied an injunction against Dish for the $4.99 daily pass. Reason I bring it up in this thread:

Judge Subramanian noted the solution for Disney is to negotiate a new license that forbids the short term passes. "As the parties agreed at oral argument, that negotiation is around the corner, given that the License expires in less than a year and everyone agrees that the next round of negotiations will need to commence soon."

All that to say - it looks like Dish/Disney will be negotiating in less than a year. Judge denies Disney injunction against Dish over ESPN inclusion in Sling Orange
Going back to my post from last year and mentioned in the IP TV section, it looks like something is going on with Dish/Disney because Sling no longer offers the daily/weekly passes. One thing I read a while ago is that the lawsuit over the passes was paused when Dish was in bankruptcy, but now that they have emerged, the lawsuit could continue and ironically the daily/weekly passes were removed the day after they emerged from bankruptcy...

It isn't just Dish. Right now, Starz is running bits asking folks to pressure Verizon into signing a contract.

Verizon is actively moving to drop video services. Haven't been able to sign up for such in many years.

I think I can see where this one ends.

wouldn't be surprised if Dish and Disney settled out of court as part of a quiet contract renewal and i wouldn't be surprised if in the coming months Dish and Disney will announce that Dish & SlingTV customers can get free ESPN Unlimited like every other provider they have new current deals with.

Our local ABC station in Lexington is off the air in dispute with Dish since Sept. 30th. It was bought out by Scripps back in the late spring which also owns the local Lexington NBC station, They fired most of the ABC36 news personalities.
