Updating Samsung DirectTV Tivo Unit software

I know Tivo has released an upated software 7.x for the Samsung units.

Mine is one from Direct TV. I am sure there isn't that much of a difference in the actual units.

I want to be able to save my recorded shows down to my PC, put them on a DVD and move them to another TV to watch.

How can this be acomplished? How can I obtain the software update for my DirecTivo unit?

I know it isn't supported, but I don't think there would be any affect on the performance of the machine.

I guess one main question is also - WHY THE HECK doesn't Direct TV allow this!!!!!!

Check out the forums on dealdatabase.com they have all the info you need. And if your not familar with linux its not going to be easy.

Even if you -do- go do the hack, you won't be running 7.x and using TiVoToGo.
You'll be using difficult, pain in the butt equivalents.

If they did support it, they'd be very concerned about the support burden.
