Just curious if its possible to upgrade the internal hard drive in a OWNED 612 DVR? I put a 500gb in there in place of the 320, it reformatted itself on boot up and still said 30hours of HD available 200 of SD. I didnt have programing at the time as Im thinking about coming back to dish. But was curious if anyone has done this before. I know it voids the warranty I know some will suggest a external drive but on the subject does anything have any experience in doing something similar?

You got further than I did! My 612 wouldn't even recognize the 1TB drive I tried. That was a WD10EAVS-xxxx, where xxxx was not the same as the sub-sub model # embedded in the firmware. I think if you get that list of disks acceptable to the firmware, and buy one of them with the exact model number (not easy to find), then it would work.

yeah the 1.5 TB WD i tried it wouldnt recognize however the 500GB Seagate it formatted and worked fine, however I would like to go to at least a 1TB instead of 320 to 500. Maybe Ill try ordering a seagate pipeline 1TB and see if that works.

Here is a list of disks embedded in the firmware, courtesy of "VIP622" on DISHMOD:

As you can see above, my WD10EAVS was nearly a match, but lacked the -57 on the end. (Probably this indicates customized firmware in the disk itself.)
