I have Dish Network. The model # is VIP622DVR.
I have a Magnavor DVD/VCR recorder,also a Sony
recorder. I have hooked both to Dish. They will not
work with Dish. What brand of DVD/VCR will work
with Dish? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You

If you are trying to use your DVR/VCR recorder's tuner, it's not going to work on any of them. None of them have the proper tuner. If all you are trying to do is to record to a DVD or VCR tape you can do it by setting up a manual recording utilizing the external input on your DVR/VCR recorder. You will need to run a composite cable red/white/yellow) between the 622 and your recorder. Set your recorder to the external input, start your 622 recording and press record on your recorder.

I believe (haven't ran into this in a loooonnng time) that Dish's recording utilize Macrovision copy-protection. So, to get around it, you need to find a recorder that either doesn't support Macrovision or one that allows you to disable it. Good luck finding one...

I record from 722 directly to DVD-R all the time. Haven't run into ANY macrovision at all (note that I don't subscribe to any premium channels ala HBO). Just hook audio & video (preferably S-Video) output from DVR to the input for the DVD/VCR, PLAY the DVR, RECORD on the DVD/VCR.

Same here. I have a Philips 3576 DVDr and have recorded many programs from my Vip722k.

I believe I stated my problem wrong. When I had SuddenLink, I had a Magnavox hooked to my T.V., so I could record T.V. programs to the DVD or the VCR. I am not trying to copy, copy protected programs, nor do I want to copy porn. Just a T.V. Program.

You could do that with cable because your Magnavox had a cable tuner in it. You can't do it with your Dish service because your Magnavox doesn't have a Dish tuner in it. You can only copy what might be on your DVR to the Magnavox in SD by going external as I mentioned in my last post.

just use the "audio/video out" of any sat receiver/dvr into the "audio/video in" of any vcr/dvd recorder (or pc capture)

and you can record any thing coming out of the sat receiver (live or played back) by using the audio/video inputs (not the tuner)

Which DVD recorders are protected? My friend got a Sony and cannot even record FX, AMC and other popular stations.

The other option is record the show you cannot record on DVD Recorder on tape and transfer it back onto DVD. Of course, the tape in SP mode.

Y ou need to connect the dvr recorder to the 622 using rca audio cables and either rca video or S video to the TV` outputs. You can record either live or what you've already stored on the dvr. They won't be in true HD since a dvd recorder can only do 480p.

Your friend's problem, and that of others including some TiVo owners, is due to the cable or FiOS company flagging the content as protected causing the DVD recorder to possibly not record it. These flags can also be set to allow for recording ONCE but disallow any transfer and other options. Fortunately a Federal court struck down the FCC's plan to require these flags in local broadcasting OTA's stating that congress erred in assigning the enforcement to the FCC as such enforcement is beyond the scope of the FCC. That was YEARS ago and this issue for OTA's flagging content has not been revived. However, cable, sat, etc., can, more or less, do anything they want (because the are NOT broadcasters, whose licenses are owned by the people of the USA), and may invoke these flags, usually as a requirement from the content owners.

It has been reported on other tech forums that several cable companies and very recently Verizon FiOS, are flagging more and more content and frustration is now building, sometimes because a cable co. is incorrectly flagging content with the wrong limitations, and it seems they contiure to flag more programming with each passing week. So, we can look to this being coming to Uverse and sat some time soon, on a greater scale, I mean.

However, the DVD recorders do NOT, by themselves, invoke in copy protection for recordings from external boxes such as cable or sat boxes, unless the content is flagged by the provider. I have been able to record FX and AMC via Dish on my DVD recorders. Has this changed in the last few months?

i have a Samsung R120 that appears to be unprotected.

I thought that it depended on what you were trying to record. My parents use FIOS, my aunt uses Comcast and my other aunt has DirecTV and the only content they can't record on a DVD Recorder are new movies that are On Demand and PPV. But standard tv such as TBS or FX should be allowed. I wish I knew someone with Dish that recorded on DVDs. I have dish but use my DVR.

I gave up on dvd and dvdr when my collection hit the thousands. It took longer to find a movie than it did to watch one.
Whenever I want to watch something now its much easier just to pull it off the net and stream it to the entertainment system.

i have a SV200 DVD Recorder and an Sanyo VCR and i have never had problems recording programs on Dish Network with ether the 625 DVR (from when i first got Dish almost 4 years ago in 2007 to late August 2010) and the VIP 722K DVR. i record WWE and TNA a lot on both VCR and DVD-R. so all the programs i recorded in the last 4 years must not been flagged for copyright protection as in blocked from recording with DVD-Recorder/VCR.

I have been recording to my panasonic on DVD for years with no problems. I do have to set it up manually for timers.

Several years ago (when I still had a C-Band dish) I bought my first DVD-R/VCR combo unit (Philips). It worked great so about 9 months later I bought another of the exact same make and model. To my surprise, the new unit would not record to DVD from a number of channels including most movie channels. The only difference between the two recorders was the firmware version. Based on the error message from the second recorder I concluded that those "unrecordable" channels must be using the "broadcast" flag to restrict recording. I found a special filter (a Time Base Corrector) that strips out the "broadcast" flag and allows the newer unit to record all channels. After switching to E* I still need the filter in place for the second recorder to certain channels.
