TP2 on E8 is spotbeam...my locals are on there (well part of them...Duluth, MN)

E8 has spotbeams at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

Freed up ConUS capacity is likely to be minimal as EchoStar 10 uses more than EchoStar 8 in the Spotbeam category. There will be new Spotbeam Tp numbers to replace the old ones except in the case of Tp 4 which is used by both for Spotbeams.

Bob,

Is there any way to show a Transponder map as these moves occur? It would be interesting to see how many Conus TPs free up.

John im going to work on that later on next month after all the moves accour.. but you will likely see a pratically a hole bird free up and some tp space on 119 :)

Looking through the lyngsat lists, it appears most of the CONUS locals on 110 will be replaced by spotbeams on those same transponder frequencies, so no CONUS gain there. The only locals on 119 that are CONUS are NYC, LA, and Denver, which must remain CONUS, so no gain there either.

Most of the freed up transponder space will be from 61.5 and 105 :). Remember, theres ~20 TPs of locals on 105 that are moving over to 110.

Is E* keeping 105 though? I thought it was going away along with 121, i.e. no more superdish?

Echostar owns 121 and has a long term lease on 105. They are just moving the standard definition locals off those satellites. They have not said what they are going to use those satellites for in the future.

So if I am understanding you correctly you are saying that even after EX is fully operational we wont gain any additional CONUS coverage?

HD Lil you mean, he's talking about National.

And right now they have room for 3 more MPEG2 channels at 61.5 &129 before they switch to MPEG4 and get more on a TP

With this being the case, were would they put any new national HD channels?

I'm guessing they'll eventually go on the FSS slot at 118.7, requiring yet another dish upgrade.
