230 - ICTV [MPEG2 SD] - EchoStar7 119W TP 11 ConUS beam changed to Available

Well, I had two guesses the other week as to what ICTV was, and both of them were wrong. But what the heck is InCite TV? Is it another full-time infomercial channel?

Sad. I have prepared myself to realize that there will be NO new hd until the new sat is in service in February. Sad. Cable companies is about to sound very well to some.

All of this nonsense about not bringing new national HD online has to be due to a lack of contracts on the part of Dish. Ciel-2 might bring additional capacity, but they've pulled down MPEG4 HD channels here and there and added HDPPV channels here and there; so it seems that the capacity is there, but the channels aren't available.

It seems to me that 'up to' means that Dish was hoping to have more channels under contract by the end of the year than what they were able to negotiate.

Any thoughts?

After being uplink for the last several months they now have Huntsville ABC-HD ready to go, I hope they make it available soon...there goes that word soon again. Huntsville will now have the big four, CBS, NBC, ABC and FOX.

Please. There's no evidence that Ciel-2 will have any impact on new national HD offerings. But it is another convenient hook to hang one's hopes on. :)

I don't really know (neither does anyone else here, I feel safe in saying) what Charlie's plans are. We'll just have to wait and see. But as I said elsewhere, even if Charlie had a boatload of new national HD under contract and ready to launch he probably wouldn't do it until the Holiday season passes.

You are missing the point that EchoStar 5 at 129 is dying, and Dish has no spares in orbit.

If Ciel-2 fails to replace EchoStar 5, then Dish would have to use every last scrap of space at 110/119 just to move the existing channels at 129 there.

Only when they know Ciel-2 is fine, can they add new channels.

I think it stands to reason that the new sat for 129 will have more transponder space for national hd , since they will have spotbeams for locals. As opposed to the old echostar 5 sat that uses national transponder space to provide locals. Once the transition to the new Ciel sat is complete , I am sure that the room for many new hd channels will be available. The problem lies with the negotiation for those national hd channels. CHarlie will only pay so much to carry them. Especially since many that they are trying to add really don't have that much real hd at any given time.

MTV,VH1,BET,CMT,Etc.

As I have said before, Charlie is not going to add any more National HD until after the first of the year, since he would have to provide them to the HD Absolute customers. He wants the HD Absolute customer to switch over to one of the more expensive HD packages. So, he has to have some desired HD available that is not in the HD Absolute packages or we will not change. I will never change. I have all I need, I am not paying $20 more per month for a few more HD channels. He can kiss my A** before I will change.

Woohoo...D* here I come. I'm making the call to switch providers. E* has not made any national HD channels available to AK/HI subs with the exception of the pitiful 9 HD channels that they've offered for the past 2 years. This just confirms what I've felt for the past how many months; E* doesn't give a damn about subs that aren't on the CONUS. I'm really quite tired of waiting and hearing them say more HD channels will be available to non CONUS subs "soon". Please...give me a break. D* has made available all the national HD channels to their HI subs that those on the CONUS can receive.

If it wasn't for the Premiums and E* DVR's,

I'd be right with Ya.:wave

Dish is waiting for (fill in the blank) to add more national HD.

-tp space
-contract negotiations
-industry trade show
-february price increases
-charlie chat
-earnings report
-retailer chat

The excuse just moves from one thing to the other.
