Uplink Report - Sept 5th

FSN South has been put on 61.5, but Atlanta (which is in the middle of FSN's territory) is on 129, that makes no sense. Unless they finally move Atlanta to 61.5 where it should have been all along.

Time sharing (or mirroring) the HD FSN channels on 4 feeds should work. I never saw more than 2 or 3 different college games on at the same time on Saturday when browsing through the multisport channels looking for football.

I image these will be VIP reciever required channels. More reason for me to beg my wife to let me cough up the money for a 622.

Something else important to note is that NTGHD and HGHD are now true mpeg4 at 129 tp30, as a result they are probably 1440 on 129

30 STZHD 9435
30 NFLHD 9464
30 NTGHD 9429
30 HGHD 9461

they're conus

they have 4 hd channels set up for the 11 rsns on 129

and 3 hd channels set up for the 4 on 61.5 , (maybe the reason they only have 3 is they're saving room for nesn?)

The channel types are still A6, which is the "mpeg2 video only available to vip" flag. I'll check resolution/video info after the football game tonight.

i don't see how it can be. They've never fit 4 mpeg2 channels on a tp before, but then again it would be 2 mpeg2 and 2 mpeg4

I wonder what their purpose of moving some locals from one transponder to another was on 129? I noticed that they moved my local DMA locals (and the neighboring DMA's locals as well) from transponder 15 to transponder 32. Is 32 one of those power boosted transponders I heard about recently?

LOL!!! I can confirm that at least 3 out of the 4 are MPEG2!!! NFL, HGTV, and NGHD are mpeg2! NFL and HGTV are 1440x1080i, NGHD is 1280x720p. I dont subscribe to Starz so I can't check that one. I would assume it is also mpeg2 though.

NFL and Starz are hovering around 8Mbit/s, NGHD is around 13, and HGTV is 11Mbit. Yeeeeeeeeeech. Checking the real time bitrates, it appears that their statmux has a per channel limit of 16Mbit (which HGTV hits quite often) and a min of 4Mbit.

That is all on 129W.

On 61.5, NFLHD and StarzHD are on their own TP, and both are h.264 (mpeg4). Both streams getting around 15Mbit/s. So basically, people with 129 are getting the shaft in regards to nflhd, starzhd, hgtv and nghd.

By NIT it's 50-50 :
Service: 9426 (NFLHD) user defined (0xa4) <- H.264
Service: 9429 (NTGHD) user defined (0xa6)
Service: 9435 (STZHD) user defined (0xa4) <- H.264
Service: 9461 (HGHD) user defined (0xa6)

But checking the tp30 mux I see ALL of them MPEG-2 !!
(Well, from now you can't trust the Service Type value :().

Compare same tp30 8/27 and today:

Cool. First I'm not sure what the funny code after KBS World listing is but it's made available so great. The Italian channels are definitely on the wings just in time for that announcement.

But what is this I see on the last entry? ESPNI? ESPN Interactive? What's that?! For Monday Night Football? College football?

"Channels" up in that range are used for Dish Home, so I'd assume some sort of espn interactive application on dish home.

wowzers.

so now they're doing 4 mpeg2 channels on a tp...

now I really wanna now why they're using mpeg4.

does the same method look better, cause it's the same thing 3 1440i channels and 1 720p channel for local markets.

30 STZHD 9435 9.2 1440x1080i
30 NFLHD 9464 9.4 1440x1080i
30 NTGHD 9429 12 1280x720p
30 HGHD 9461 10.8 1440x1080i
other data mpbs 1.9

total 43.3

is that pretty close?
