Using external drive with no sat signal

Currently traveling in a motorhome with a vip722k DVR and a tripod mounted dish. If stopping for one or two days it's not practical to set up the dish. Can watch recordings from the DVR ok with no signal but having trouble watching recordings from external drive. Does the 722 need a signal to access the external drive? Any help would be appreciated.

I just disconnected my 722 and was able to watch from the EHD. I would think the K would be the same. I did notice quite a bit of lag time to get to "my media".

You should be able to. Do you get an error message when you try?

I tried again and it seems fine. Possibly a loose connection, I do have to unplug the EHD when moving. Thanks for the reply.
