I read the review of the Uverse system, but never heard anything about the possibility of expanding the capacity with an external hard drive. I know my Dish622 will allow for an external HD via USB. I see that the Uverse DVR has a USB port, but have not heard what this port will be used for and if it was the ability to connect an external HD.

Also, do I read all of this correctly that the total home dvr will communicate with other dvrs in other rooms by using cat5 if a home is already wired to do so?

As of right now what I've heard is they do not allow this. Both the Motorola and Cisco boxes have usb on the front too.. :(

Yep, it uses cat5, which is great as you can ask for it to be installed when you order and they will plan for it. I had Uverse installed this last wednesday and the guy was here and gone in about 2 1/2 hours and he ran cat5 for everything (including my daughters room which wasn't on the "list").

Anyway to get discounted rates?

Why no local PBS HD on DN/DTV??
