Hello everyone! First time poster here, so I wanted to give my thoughts on my new install today of my D * system. My system install included the slimline dish, (1) HDDVR (1) HD receiver and (2) standard receivers. **SWM install**

--First, the installer was very knowledgeable about the products, services and was very professional. He arrived on top when promised and immediately started the install. I had a conversation about how HD and the picture quality was very important to me, thus why I am switching from my local cable provider. He said the biggest problem he sees doing installs (and fixing prior installs from other installers) is that they don't take pride in their work and don't use the correct procedures, i.e., good compression connectors, dish alignment, etc.

That immediately impressed me so I feel very confident in his work and thus far, I am extremely pleased with D* and the HD PQ. No pixelation, no dropouts, nothing.

I just wanted to say hello to everyone and give my nickel on my first experience with D*.

Now, off to watch my UK wildcats play some hoops in beautiful HD! : )

Welcome to the site !!!

It's always good to hear about positive installs, it seems you ALWAYS hear about the ones that were not so good !

Enjoy !!!!

Welcome and glad you like it.

Now if you haven't already connect those HD boxes to your ethernet network. Doing so will allow you access to DirecTV on Demand on the HD DVR and Media Share and TVApps on both HD boxes. Plus you'll be all set for a new feature that's being tested in the Cutting Edge section now that should be made available for expanded testing soon.

I am connecting a wireless bridge since my router and modem are up stairs in my office. Haven't hooked it up yet, so that's next on the list. Will my regular HD receiver still be able to access the on demand feature without having it connected to my network?

What is the new feature that is being tested?

The new feature is called Multi Room Viewing. You'll supposedly be able to watch a program from the DVR on any other box in the house that's connected to the network. It won't be released for a while. There's even a rumor that DIRECTV is going to charge extra money for this feature.

To access On Demand, you need to have your receivers connected to the internet. The new feature, MRV will be out soon as a NR. You can try it out if you go over to the Cutting Edge forum and participate in the beta testing....

Your regular Hd receiver would not be able to access On Demand even if it was connected to the internet. With the new MRV coming soon, you will be able to access On Demand recordings on one of your DVR's from a regular HD receiver, but it will have to be connected to the internet and would have to be an H21 or above model number.

HAHA! Thanks! I am still impressed with D* and the PQ. HD DVR is running smoothly and have already downloaded the iphone D* app. THis thing is freaking awesome. Tested it a few times and viola!

I was such a geek, i scheduled a program to record from my iphone just to watch the little red dot appear on the front panel of the box. LOL !

How in the world does that work anyway??

I'm still very pleased & impressed with D* 4 months on. I watched D*'s new satellite launch this week(I told my mother that it may not be the space shuttle launch, but it was important to D* subscribers). So far, everything with D* has been positive for me.
