I'm trying to piece together a system, looking mostly at Dell and NewEgg. I plan to run my current VGA monitor for a while, then both it and a widescreen LCD for a while, then just the LCD.

The proposed dual monitor systems all appear to have only 2 DVI ports.

Is there such an animal as a video card with VGA and DVI or VGA and HDMI? Recommendations?

Yes, I'm leaning toward using an adapter. I just hate adding a new piece of 3rd party hw to the equation. In the event of trouble, just look at all the finger pointing......

Most of the cards/motherboards come with the adapter. It just takes the analog pins on the DVI cable and routes them to the VGA pins. Check the card or motherboard specs you are considering, you will probably find the adapter listed in the included parts.
