Seriously, I recall reading in Internet there was a method - using paper clip to connect two legs of serial EEPROM chip ( small guy with 8 legs) , I don't remember exactly, seems #4 and #5 together.
It's like reset NVRAM in PC, but unfortunately there are no pins ready for jumper that.
? Will doing a reset to defaults fix this? You will lose all the settings like locks, favorites, and timers, as well as screen size.... On a DVR you would lose the recorded programs, too, IIRC. The alternative of 10000 codes and some large number of blisters sounds even worse. Next time tape it inside the battery compartment. Facing the plastic, maybe?

That's the best way to do it, call tech support and they will send a signal through the satellite to clear the locks. They can't give you the number, but they will clear the locks so you can setup a new number.
They will have you validate who you are first, in case it is a kid trying to get through the locks.
