When I set up to record a sporting event I check under options and it has 60 minutes extended time. I reset it back to zero and check the box to make that the system default. The next time I select a sporting event it has 60 minutes again. There is no problem recording things other than sports. I can't find anywhere else under the menu to set the system default record time. "John"

60 minutes is the system default for sports events and can only be modified event by event.

If it truly is a sporting event, you'll be glad the 60 minute extension is there. I need a 120 minute extension if I record a Red Sox/Yankees game...

You'll need an extra 180 minutes if Dice-K is pitching. Talk about a snails pace....

as KAB pointed out it is the system default for all sporting events to hopefully cover any overtime that a sporting event may entail.

If it's a repeating timer(ie Formula 1 racing) you can change the extra time and it will stick to that timer.

Now if they would just automatically add 60 minutes to the programs that follow sporting events.

I hear that! Yesterday I added 60 minutes to Friday Night Lights on NBC because it followed a Giants game. You have to do this manually but it can be done.
