Sorry to say that my attempt to get Voom has been a no show. I ordered Voom Jan 7, 2005 and was scheduled to have it installed Jan 14, 2005 between 12:00 - 5:00 PM. So I take a vacation day to be there when they come. I was really excited about getting all the high definition channels they offer. Sometime after 4:00 I start to get a little concerned so I called Voom to verify my order. They checked and said everything was ok and that the installer would be here by 5:00. Five o'clock comes and goes and no one has showed up or called. I call Voom back and they said they would check with the install company. About 2 min later they come back and said they can't wait any longer for them to answer so they give me the install co number. I called this number and a recording said someone would be with me in aprox. 1 min 50 sec. someone finally answers about 16 min. later and they also said that someone should have been there and to hold while they call the installer (another company) to find out what the problem

is. They come back and they can't get in touch with them, so they give me their number. I called three times and all I get is their answering service, so I my name, telephone number and a message for them to give me a call. Next day, I have not heard anything so I call back again and leave another message and wait some more. I call again and finally get someone and asked him when are they going to install the equipment. He puts me on hold to check his list and comes back and said I was not on his list that no one had called him and he asked me who had set up this and I told him that Zoom said they had made the arrangement. He then got very irate and said he wished Zoom would stop setting up appointments that they had no business doing that. I called Voom back 4 or 5 times and even asked to speak to the manager. Someone was supposed to call me back to let me know something, they didn't. So I made one more call and they promised someone would call me the next day that I would be getting two calls from differen

t people and the problem would be solved. No One Called. I was never rude with any of the people I talked to but obviously this company has some serious problems they need to work out or they won't last long.

If you can be patient yet persistent you will get an install. I have found
that the VOOM CSR's schedule appointments and it is only taken as a
suggested date by these local installers. They have their own agenda and
typically install other Satellite providers other than just VOOM services.
Usually you will get a confirmation letter from VOOM or Installs, Inc.
telling you about your appointment time and contact info. You can also
press vOOM for the phone number of your installer or the installation
company and then press them.
It is a much more consistent arrival time if you can directly contact your
assigned installer.

I predict that you are incorrect. VOOM will not fail... Ownership may
change though. But in the meantime the installation fiasco is not helping
to add to their subscriber base. I had no problems with my install or
installers but I was pro-active in confirming their arrival date and time by
speaking directly with the installer. Talking to the cSR's always leaves me
feeling that the answer was taken from a list of "answers that the customer
is going to want to hear". Not real information though.

[VOOM] Re: Attempt to join Voom

Unfortunately, your experience closely mirrors our own of over a year
ago but you did post in the right place. Once Wilt reads this and
sends it on to one of people at VOOM headquarters I predict you will
get your install done and done right.

I'm not going to gloss over the problems VOOM is having in getting
Installs, Inc. to do good installs but give VOOM another chance. As
you can see Josh got his service call problems resolved.

And you are likely to be in pig heaven when you get all the HD VOOM
provides.

Make sure to check on what OTA stations you should be able to get at
your location by going to <antennaweb.org>. Then you'll know what you
and your installer should expect and can be proactive in getting the
right OTA antenna for your location.

By the way, your post is mild compared to some of mine you will find
archived on here, on satguys and AVSforum. But that said we really
enjoy-too much?-all the HDTV VOOM provides.

Still watching HDTV in light rain with a Flood Warning in Seattle, Gill

P.S.: We're on high ground.
