Is the HD signal via cable degraded by as much as 15% compared to a
satellite signal? So said a guy who would like me to sign up for D*
rather than VOOM ("bad reception in the NW") or Comcast.

D* has actually been pretty notorious for HD compression. Comcast does NOT
compress HD signals.

[VOOM] Re: cable

Can't tell you about cable degrading HD signal but earlier today
talked to a person who had seen an HD program at a friends, became
hooked, ordered "cable", was very disappointed and cancelled. I
mentioned Comcast as that is our local cable provider and they
admitted it was Comcast they had and cancelled.

As to "bad reception in the NW", what is this person talking about?
Here in Seattle if you have a shot of the satellite from your house
VOOM comes in just fine. In clear weather or lightly cloudy weather
we get sig. level of 97. OTA (with the original VOOM antenna) brings
in all the local digital channels here 10 miles south of downtown
Seattle. We have had some rainfade issues in heavy rain and are
scheduled for an antenna upgrade from 18" to 24" in our zip code.

Loving VOOM under cloudy Seattle skies, Gill
