Greetings group. I am new to the VOOM forum. At present I am a DISH customer. Recently, I have purchased a Phillips HDTV. Am I to understand the previous posts that VOOM does not provide local channels?

Voom supplies a small antenna for OTA. How well it works depends on how far and what direction your HD stations are from your location.
Voom does not carry locals on the satellite.
You may need to procure your antenna with rotor if your HD OTA stations are far and/or in different directions.
Here in San Diego, I have HD stations from 4 directions. I bought a Winegard 6065 and a rotor and it works fine.
But remember that the focus of Voom is the HD channels, not a few locals. I kept cable for it's variety of SD channels, incluiding local.
No satellite service has it all, and no other service specializes in HD like Voom.
If you are into HD, Voom is for you. The rest just watch Cable.

Locals through an off the air antenna and as long as you are in reasonable
range of a local network affiliate and this will give you far better picture
and the possibility of HD locals. Neither DirecTV nor Dish have any HD
locals and the picture is nowhere near as good as a Local OTA digital one.
VOOM bears the costs of the local antenna and installs it as part of your
package. You do not pay extra .

[VOOM] Re: New member

Voom does not have "local channels". Local channels refer to
rebroadcast of analog (non-HDTV) signals from your local stations
via the satellite.

Voom provides local programming in a different way. The Voom
receiver has a built-in tuner to receive the digital version of your
local programs via a free over-the-air antenna. Digital version of
local broadcast is `clearly' better than analog and is the only way
to receive HDTV shows like NFL Football and Alias.
