1). I'm having installation done tomorrow. New to VOOM. Do any of
you VOOM pros have any advise regarding installation or questions I
need to ask the installer to make sure it goes smoothly?

2). I hate to look ignorant but what is OTA? You guys use alot of
Acronyms.

3). I have a Toshiba 46", rear projection HDTV. Ya think I'll be
happy with the outcome? Seems like there are some out there all for
VOOM and some frustrated by it. Are all the bugs worked out?

Ron,

Welcome to the Yahoo Voom forum. First, before the installer leaves, make
sure he goes thru the installer menu and goes thru all 7 steps. One of those
steps is to scan OTA channels. OTA stands for "Over the Air" antenna. I also
have a rear projection tv (43" wide screen) and believe you me, you will be
awed! I have had voom for about 4 months now and I still am awed almost
daily.

Also, as I posted yesterday, I swear my OTA channels (abc/cbs etc) have
better quality than the Voom feeds and they say it's because of the
compression of the feed from the satellites. So the plus side of having Voom
is you get your OTA channels whereas with Directv/Dish Tv/Cable you don't.

Also, I saw you're in the Tampa area so you shouldn't have any problems
picking up the local stations.

If you're a fan of CSI and Lost (Abc), you're gonna love your tv!

[VOOM] Re: New to VOOM!

Thanks a bunch Robert! I currently have some HDTV thru our local
cable company, but 5-6 stations just isn't enough anymore. And I'ver
heard there may even be some diffference between the HDTV I have now
and VOOM's HDTV. ron

Welcome to VOOM!!! I strongly recommend you to visit the following web site:

voom.satelliteguys.us

There is a lot of info on VOOM. Make sure that you check out the FAQ's.

There's a lot of good information on the FAQ's page. Thanks!

While the dish channels are coming in great my worst OTA fears came true. I
can't get CBS or Fox on my OTA. Where I'm located in St. Petersburg, the
compass orientations are 348 degrees (28 miles) and 88 degrees (24 miles)
respectively for the nearest transmitters.

The problem I had with the installation is the installer mounted the antenna
and dish on the lowest (7 foot from the ground) part of my two-story roof.
>From where it is located now, 348 degrees is on the opposite side of the

house. The line of sight takes it right through my roof. I'm not an expert,
but it seems if he had mounted the antenna on the top of the roof, I would
have a clear shot all the way around. It wouldn't have taken a ladder
because he could've walked up there. They are supposed to send someone back
out Saturday and maybe reorient the antenna, but in the meantime I can't
even use my old service because he used the existing lines to tap into. Had
I known the outcome was going to leave me without two major stations, I
would've insisted on him running new lines and leaving the existing.

Any thoughts anyone??? Try another antenna??

You got a L A Z Y installer who didn't want to do his job. You should call
his supervisor and let him know.

... and yes, when they move the antenna where it "should" be, I'm confident
you'll get the stations in your area.
