[VOOM] ota without sub

Would my receiver still be able to receive ota hd without a sub? It
would be nice to know that if were to cancell my sub my receiver,
which I purchased, could still have some worth.

FWIW, I once unhooked the satellite cable from the STB and the OTA still functions.

Re: [VOOM] ota without sub

VOOM will not authorize OTA only and when you hook up to the Rainbow 1 satellite and set up the receiver you get OTA channels when authorized by VOOM. If one day VOOM goes off then if you have already setup your OTA channels it is possible that you could get them if VOOM leaves the receiver in an authorized state and then you do not hook up their satellite.
I have an extra vOOM receiver that I bought from a friend used. It works perfectly but VOOM refuses to authorize it even thought it is clean, not stolen, and account is paid in full. They will only authorize receivers they sell the first time. I tried to get them to allow OTA and they would not do it. So I can receive my OTA channels after I set this receiver up but within a few seconds VOOM has a popup message saying the receiver is not authorized.
Frankly, it is possible that the OTA would work in an authorized receiver that is no longer receiving VOOM's defunct service but VOOM would have to be good samaritan's and leave it that way.
This is totally unpredictable.

Re: [VOOM] ota without sub

As long as your receiver is "authorized" it will receive OTA without sat signal. Another way to put it: as long as it hasn't been de-authorized.

Thanks for the responses. It sucks buying a product that is still
under the control of the seller after the sale. I dont expect free
service but ota is free and I can't see what Voom would win by
blocking the ota if you have already discontinued the service. Just
my tcw. I guess if I ever decide to cancel I will have to remember to
unplug the coax first.

I asked Dragonlady this question before, and she said that it could
still be used as an OTA receiver.

Dragonlady- If you are still out there, can you still confirm?

And possibly the phone line as well.
:)

They still have the cable company mentality, chances are they will
never shed that. Even after the spinoff from Cablevision.
So yes unless you remove the coax before canceling, you just have a
large expensive paper on your hands. Unfortunately

Re: [VOOM] ota without sub

the phone line should have no effect but who knows....so it's not a bad suggestion. If you are not subscribed you won't need it anyway.
