That's not surprising. You're comparing two different things. Those
mobile trucks usually lease some frequency for the duration of their
transmission. It's not always Ku-band like your small 18" dish, and
the larger dish is needed to operate in C-band. Also, the sheer size
of a large dish makes it perfect to be a large metal sail, and those
mobile trucks don't have the same supports that you'd get if you sunk
a pole down into some concrete like you would in a permanent
installation. We've had problems with 1.2m dishes that we attached on
the top of an 18 story building that needed realignment in a storm
with 60mph winds.

Finally back online. Had to buy AOL "free trial" for a month. I live=20
9 miles from Pensacola in Santa Rosa County. This place is a war zone.=20
Half of Pensacola has power back but here in Santa Rosa we are 100%=20
without--the transmission lines that bring it to our substations were=20
destroyed. it will be three more weeks for me. On house generator-10=20
gallons of gas a day.

I was watching Voom through the storm on my 31" dish right up until the=20
eye was 25 miles offshore and then the power went out because tornados=20
blew the lines down. Only had 3 panels blown out of my 10" C-Band=20
dish. Will fix that Saturday. I should go into the tree service=20
business because when I finish cutting up the 40 trees I lost, I will=20
be an expert! Otherwise, we are grateful to God to be alive.
