Listen to this. I was making a business call to the owner of an electrical distributor who had just purchased a Sharp Aquos LCD HDTV monitor. I got to talking about programming sources since he wanted to know and was a newbie. A nice, bright guy who considers himself a techie. He listened to Shortwave as a kid which is a very common link amongst BUD owners.
Anyway, he did not realize that he would need a set top box to receive any HD broadcasts or cable or DBS. Lot's of misinformation at the place he purchased the unit.
He doesn't have a roof top antenna either, although he could probably get by with a suburban omnidirectional antenna.
Anyway, he is going to look into VOOM after I explained all his options. I think their OTA receiver is very good and told him so. It's really surprising that someone who listened to shortwave radio would not expect an antenna to be needed as a minimum. But when I told him about VOOM's complete package with antenna and dish installation included and receiver with OTA tuner and all the HD channels including ESPNHD (sometimes) he really got excited. As a new HDTV owner he had no idea that VOOM existed. Darn shame because I'd like to see VOOM stick around and not get absorbed like Primestar did. I was a charter Primestar subscriber and at least they got the word out and built up enough subscriber base to be bought out.
Marketing and Sales!!!! Very much needed. Their adds in all the HD magazines are terrific. I love them but they need to grab people in the stores when they buy the TV before they walk out the door. All the major chains are locked up so we have SEARS. Their best option is home theatre and antenna installers who also sell HDTV's.
Anyway, glad for the new moderators. I haven't won a single lottery today and I feel pretty good about it.

Honestly, I'm surprised there are people out there who have 4 providers. I
