WD My Book USB HDD help needed

I just got this unit to use on my receiver. What do I need to do to it to make it work?

I plugged it in on my PC and Windows recognized it. The book says to install some software ... do I need that? I only want to use this on the Dish receiver.

Just plug it into your receiver and it will prompt you to format it once it's detected. No need to connect it into a PC at all.

Is there any way to get Dish to turn it on for free?

How do you press them for loyalty credit or something. Have been a customer for 10+ years.
