Did my OTA antenna make my Hopper sick?

I had problems with Hopper. My programming stopped. The machine ran several tests then it urged me to call DISH Network. In talking with DISH I rebooted and was ultimately told my hard drive had failed. The CSR ordered me a new receiver.

Desperate to see some TV I disconnect my OTA antenna thinking I would directly connect it to my set. When I did this my Hopper started showing channels again, even streaming channels.

Now I wonder: Did my OTA antenna make my Hopper sick. The weather has made some OTA channels difficult to view. Could my Hopper have read that as a failure of my satellite dish?

I Don't think so. If your hard drive is failing it will generate that message. When you get the replacement hook the usb dongle back up again to the new hopper and it should work fine.

It seemed like that is what happened to me. The receiver is now working fine since I disconnect the antenna. Can I trust the receiver to keep working?
I would. Now as mentioned earlier, try to plug the OTA adapter back in to the Hopper and see if it continues to work properly. If so, as mentioned it could be that you were tuned to a low signal OTA channel. If the Hopper dies again simply unplug the adapter and you should be good to go.
