And every time I turn on Dish I am never sure what channel I will on. Because of the help I have received here, I am able to record tv shows. Not sure if anything I do is the correct way, hope someday I figure that out

If you mean that when you turn the system on it is never on the channel you last watched you can fix that. Using your remote, press Home twice. Go to Settings and then to Power. Finally set Power On to Tune to Last Channel. You probably have that set to Tune to Smart Channel at the moment.

Have you written a book on this, because I would like to purchase it!

Well of course that worked. So, what do I do when the screen freezes? Am I too fast using the remote? Coming back only stop and start.

The key is not rushing with remote. For instance, pay attention to tv screen when you change channels. You press 2 0 9 on remote and see 209 in the middle of screen, and the channel changes. If you rush (I still do), you end up with 20 or 29. You can always replace the batteries to see if that helps. I noticed that I replace the batteries more often with Dish equipment. It is possible you might have loose cables, malfunctioning Hopper or Joey. Unplug them from the outlet, replug. If nothing works, ask for help here.

When does the screen freeze? Watching a live show or a recording? My viewing live show always stops when I get moderate to heavy rain. I temporarily switch to DVR.

Good advice on the first comment, Don't get much rain here in the Desert. Since we have been in August we have had one windy day, a hobnob and a lighting storm. Only times I lower the satellite dish.

Good call on the batteries, replaced with 2 lithium batteries. Last night i learned something. Hit home once and it brings up a screen that says "channels you currently have" (or something similar) press channel desired and it goes right there, no screen freeze. My DW has a question: on the left side of the screen it says dish, dish etc. On the Hopper 3 tutorial it has icons.

When you say it says Dish, what screen are you referring to?

OK, Hipkat was right in his thoughts. The logos will change after a bit of time after you have booted up, or at least should. If they don't it will not hinder your ability to watch the channel.
Happy wife, happy life, so now it can be explained. The Hopper is always on with internet access. The satellite dish is up 95% of the time. The only time I would say it is off is when I push the reset button. It's always possible that I am/not doing what I should be doing.

I appreciate all the comments. I am no stranger to satellite tv having C&Ku bands in the 80eighties and over 25 years with Directv. Since I was not able to find a properly working Dish installation, I feel that I am at a big disadvantage at knowing if what I am seeing is the way it should be. Being in a RV does not help and not knowing how many users here are in a RV, this seems to be a place where there are a large number of very sharp people.

Oh, there are plenty of people on here that are also RV'ers (not me but I do have a tripod I take out when camping so hey), we got you covered ;)
Well after using this website I felt this was the place and I appreciate being helped.

As you now know, that is an optional feature that is defaulted to being active. The system is supposed to figure out what channels you watch most frequently and WHEN. I have to say that I LOVE that feature. It is about 95% spot on the channel I want to watch at that time, usually with the programming airing that I want to watch. I know that feature is not for everyone, but I like being presented with what I am most likely to watch, but if I turned on the H3 specifically to watch something else I can easily change channels. Also, the My Channels on Now is about 99% correct on the channels I would normally take a quick look on the EPG to see what is airing, and I have often selected the options from My Channels on Now to start watching.

Bottom line is I have come to like the Home tab feature and the predictive what I want to watch and what channels I view most because it is efficient and spot on, but I know others may not care for those features, so to each his own.
